CORNWALL, Ontario – Wear your support for Habitat for Humanity Seaway Valley at the ‘Rosie & Bob’ costume contest.
Dress as Rosie the Riveter or Bob the Builder for Habitat’s new fundraiser at Boston Pizza (Cornwall) on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
No need to register. The contest is open to all ages and runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. In addition, the popular eatery (located at 1234 Brookdale Avenue) will be donating 10 per cent of their food sales that evening to Habitat.“Both characters have a symbolic meaning to our organization,” said Charles Leclair, special events coordinator for Habitat’s Seaway Valley chapter.Rosie the Riveter, the bicep-curling cultural icon for feminism, dates back to the World War II era and was inspired by the women who replaced conscripted men in manufacturing plants.On past Habitat “home build” projects, volunteers for the Women’s Build Day wore T-shirts donning Rosie’s image.Leclair added that Bob the Builder is a fantastic representation of Habitat’s mission to build homes for low-income working families throughout SDG.Since the non-profit was founded in 1998, 11 families, including 28 children, have been provided with safe, decent, and affordable housing.Leclair said brand new costumes aren’t necessary, since both characters’ looks can be easily pieced together.Rosie’s attire consists of a red bandana, a blue button-up shirt, dark denim jeans and some red lipstick.Meanwhile, Bob wears a yellow hat, a red/yellow shirt, denim overalls, and a tool belt.
“Who knows, I may go as a Rosie,” said Leclair.
Prizes will be awarded by audience applause. Donations will also be accepted throughout the evening.
PURE Esthetics & Massage and Home Hardware have donated gifts for the Best Rosie and Best Bob prizes. The Best Couple prize is a one-night stay for up to four people at the Best Western Plus Parkway Inn, which includes a fireplace and access to swimming.
