Behind the Scenes
If you feel your expertise is best directed to behind the scenes work, please consider joining one of the governing committees of Habitat for Humanity Cornwall & The Counties. It is here that you can change people’s lives and have a hand in making decisions that shape the future of the organization. In committees, you can also take your volunteer experience up a notch to develop skills that help govern organizations. There are a number of different committees that you can join. Please take a look through the list to see which committees you feel would be the best fit for you!
Committee | Description |

Family Services Committee | A team that acts as the primary liaison between Habitat for Humanity Cornwall & The Counties and families with whom it partners to change lives. Responsible for determining and reaching out to applicants to become Habitat homeowners, and applying fair criteria to making the decisions about who the successful applicants will be. |
Volunteer Committee | Members help to recruit, orient and use individual and corporate volunteers to fulfill Habitat for Humanity Cornwall & The Counties’ mission. |
Community & Faith Relations Committee | A team that liaises with local faith groups throughout SD&G. Members of the Community & Faith Relations Committee make presentations to faith groups and coordinate volunteer activities with churches. |
Public Relations Committee | A team that organizes special events surrounding the build and initiatives for fundraising and public awareness. Individuals with marketing and/or communications experience help spread the word of Habitat’s mission through advertising, social media and word-of-mouth. |
ReStore Committee | Develop and approve all policy decisions regarding the store, such as but not limited to hours of operation; types of materials accepted in the story; maintenance and security of Habitat tools; customer service policies; advertising and promotions; store security and safety; and produce procurement. |
Build Committee | Oversees responsibility for planning and implementing the construction of new homes for partner families and other construction projects like Renew It projects and deconstruction activities. |
Safety Committee | Responsible for building and maintaining a comprehensive and integrated safety program for all affiliate operations. Members are CPR and First Aid Certified. Committee members train Build Team Leaders in the correct and safe building of Habitat Homes. Committee members coordinate and present daily safety training on site throughout the house build project. |
Finance Committee | This committee is responsible for overseeing the fiscal activities and financial matters of the affiliate including the strategic planning, asset management, audit and budget. The tasks of this committee include the drafting and implementing of the long-term strategic plan and the annual operating budget. |
